Well where do i start. My tour is over now so i have the time to write on my blog again. This has been a really busy last 2 weeks with the tour but im done the tour and im heading to Oz on oct 23rd so i have a few days to relax :) Which is well needed.
Oct 11-12 Wellington
I arrived into Wellington, it was a busy city that had some of the rugby games held in there stadium. But the main games are in Auckland where i started my journey. Me and Mylene walked around the city and went to the Te Papa (which means "our world") and is a 7 floor museum. The top floor was a view of the city which was amazing. we saw the rugby world cup there, it was awesome got a picture beside it. They had some big guy watching it so no one would steal it lol. or touch it i guess. there was a line just to get a picture beside it. Also the Haka dance that the All Blacks do before i match, at the museum they had a theater where you can learn the dance. The thing i didnt know is that they were taping us and we could buy the video after i was crying i was laughing so hard when i watched myself lol. Clearly not a good dancer
At night went to Blends Bar with the contiki group for dinner then drinks. We played drinking games one called heads or tails. Pretty self explanatory, you put your hands on your head or your bum. And then sit down if you get wrong when they flip a coin. The winning table got free shots. Then we played a hubba bubba game. All the guys (so like 20) were standing on the bar and all the girls had to choose a guy to stand under. Didnt know what we were doing til we were all up there. So anyways we had to take a wrapped piece of gum and use our hands to put the gum from the bottom of the guys pants thru to the top of them and then unwrap the gum chew it til you could blow a bubble and the first to do so won free shots. My competitive side came out and had to win of course lol. Got free shots for me and Keirn! The rest of the night danced on the bar to Grease lightening, thong song lots of oldies, random songs lol. They would randomly spray the people on the bar with water hose from the bar.
Went Quad biking in the morning on the Kapiti Coast. it was awesome. Went thru a forest area and lots of rivers and muddy areas. It was the only time i was happy that it had just rained. Went bowling with everyone at night, it was good times, had beer and pizza.
Oct 13 Christchurch
Woke up at 615 am to head to Christchurch, we took a 3.5 hr ferry then a 5 hr bus ride to get there. me and anna (from england) walked around when we got there. They had 2 earthquakes in this area in sept 2010 and Feb 2011. It was totally deserted and not fixed yet and wont be for about 3 years they say. They insurance companies arent letting anyone bulid or fix anything. It was hard to believe this had happened to so many peoples homes. the only things that were fixed and normal was the police station, hospital and casino lol. YEAH i couldnt believe that everything on the street was ruined and a huge casino was opened. I thought of my grandma!! me and anna found a thai place on the corner of the street in a motorhome. It was lined up wiith people as there wasnt much more to choose from to eat in town. we did a tour thru the city the next morning, which was more info about what happened and what it was before the earthquakes.
Oct 14th Franz Josef Glacier
Went to do a helihike on a Glacier in the morning. Which is a helicopter ride and a 2 hours guided hike on a top of a glacier between 2 huge mountains ( i paid more to do this activity). It was the highlight of my trip so far and of my life. people were crying they were taken away with how beautiful it was up there. We got up there and no one talked for a while as we were all in awe of how amazing this place was. We saw random ice formations, hiked with spike shoes and walking poles up this glacier. The ice was bright blue at some parts. ill try to post pics soon my camera isnt working on this computer. We had a hot springs pool included in our tour after the hike which was really nice to relax and get warm again.
While driving we have seen mulitple places where they filmed the lord of the rings, and one place where they had the chronicles of narnia. Drove thru Arther pass which is one of the passes to drive thru to get from east of the island to the west. and it was the biggest one. which made it really windy on the roads and the scenery of tall amazing mountains. It looks like at home here alot but the mountains are bigger and are everywhere. Its so beautiful driving in the bus i cant stop looking out the windows.
Oct 15 to current Queenstown
We got to this beautiful place and stayed at the Aspen Hotel on the top of the mountain side. We had unreal views from our rooms and the hotel restaurant. Ive been lucky to stay in these nice hotels. Now im in Bumbles Hostel which is nice but with 6 people in it. Right now it was me and mylene and 2 guys from Ireland, but everyone left today. So unless ppl are booked for tonight i have it to myself.
Went out 3 nights in a row, to bars called World Bar, Winnies, buffalo club, frasers and Minus 5 (which was the ice bar, where we got uggs, jackets, hats, gloves and it was made all in ice and our glasses were in ice) we were only allowed in for 30mins as it was to cold to stay long. It was a neat experience. then did fire shots to warm up after which was peach schnapps and whiskey gross. This town reminds me of Whistler alot. Went to Milford Sound during the day one night and it was a long day. 5 hr bus there and back and a 2 hr Boat Cruise in Milford sound. the bus had huge windows and the roof of the bus was windows as well. It was worth seeing for sure but i was really tired of being on Buses for the last couple days. They had waterfalls, and million of seals along shore. They drove the boat in the waterfalls and some ppl didnt hear then say that they were doing that so they ran last minute from the deck ahah it was hilarious to see them getting wet.
WOW just so you know why my camera wasnt working i put the cord in the computer beside me and it was not the right one... Dumb Ass thought id share my blonde moment. but for my defence the wrong computer was closer to me lol.
Went for a last dinner with the contiki group to Winnies for Pizza and drinks. We chilled and played pool. it was a good night to say bye to everyone. In the moring we all went Jet boating down a river and then it then hugged everyone that was still on the tour as 10 of us finished our tour here and the rest back in Christchurch. Was sad to say bye but excited for my adventures to come :)
Me and Mylene (friend from Montreal) had a day and night together after everyone left. We walked around town went to Fergburger (which is GIANT burgers) we both got one and ate the whole thing i was so proud of us lol. And i was soo hungry after jet boating. We went for Thai food last night. And now its so sunny out so planning on renting a bike and ride around the sea wall. Maybe meet some new friends i hope!!!!
Talk soon,
Love you all Mieke
